In response, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs has urged the international community to enforce relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions that pertain to Yemen and the security of maritime routes in the Red Sea.
In its statement, the UAE ministry underscored the importance of several key UN resolutions, notably Resolution 2216 concerning Yemen, and Resolution 2722, which focuses on safeguarding navigation rights and ensuring freedom of movement through the Red Sea. These resolutions are crucial for maintaining peace and security in the region, according to the ministry.
The UAE emphasized that freedom of navigation in international waters is a right protected under international law, specifically citing the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. This convention is pivotal in regulating maritime conduct and ensuring the uninterrupted movement of vessels across international waters.
Additionally, the UAE reiterated its unwavering solidarity with Saudi Arabia, affirming its support for any measures aimed at safeguarding the kingdom’s security and stability.
