Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, has arrived in Ottawa, marking the start of an official visit aimed at bolstering relations between the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Canada. This visit seeks to enhance strategic cooperation and explore opportunities for economic partnerships between the two nations.
During his visit, Sheikh Khaled is set to meet with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney to discuss ways to deepen economic ties and promote investment. These discussions are expected to build upon the existing partnership between the UAE and Canada, focusing on sustainable economic growth and mutual prosperity. The visit comes after recent high-level dialogues between UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Prime Minister Carney, centered on strengthening economic and technological collaborations.
Accompanying Sheikh Khaled is a senior delegation from the UAE, including Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology; Reem Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation; Dr. Thani Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Foreign Trade; and Mohamed Alsuwaidi, Minister of Investment. The visit underscores the UAE’s commitment to expanding its international economic partnerships.
A significant milestone in the UAE-Canada relations is the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) finalized in July 2026. This agreement aims to reduce trade barriers and improve market access for goods, services, and investments, offering new business opportunities for both nations. The partnership is expected to enhance cooperation across strategic sectors such as energy, mining, artificial intelligence, infrastructure, and ports.
The UAE is Canada’s largest export market in the Middle East, making the bilateral relationship a critical component of Canada’s regional trade strategy. Both nations are eager to expand commercial prospects and attract investment while focusing on advanced technologies and emerging industries.
Sheikh Khaled’s visit to Canada follows his recent trip to Greece, where discussions also centered on strengthening bilateral ties and economic cooperation. The UAE announced plans for a €15 billion investment in Greece as part of a joint initiative, reflecting its broader strategy to deepen economic collaboration with key international partners.
