UAE Implements AI Studies Nationwide, Expands Government’s Artificial Intelligence Initiatives

The UAE Cabinet has greenlit a significant initiative to integrate an artificial intelligence curriculum into the educational framework of both public and private schools. This move is part of the nation’s broader strategy to enhance AI utilization within education and government services. The newly introduced curriculum will cover essential AI concepts, including data handling, algorithms, various applications, as well as the risks and ethical considerations involved. In preparation for this educational shift, the program aims to equip 22,000 teachers and educators with the necessary skills to incorporate AI into teaching methods, assessments, lesson planning, and curriculum development.

Highlighting the country’s commitment to future-proofing education, UAE Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, emphasized the importance of continuous learning for teachers to ensure students are ready to face an ever-evolving future landscape. Complementing this educational focus, the Cabinet has also approved the establishment of a new AI advisory system. This system is designed to assist ministers by reviewing policies, legislation, and government strategies with the help of 32 specialized AI assistants. These assistants will analyse proposals, evaluate their potential impacts, study international practices, and offer recommendations aligned with the UAE’s national priorities.

In a parallel technological advancement, the Cabinet has introduced regulations for autonomous vehicles. The newly approved framework will detail the procedures for testing, inspecting, registering, and licensing self-driving cars in the UAE. By supporting the development of autonomous vehicles, the country aims to promote cleaner transportation solutions and alleviate congestion on its roads.

Significant strides have also been reported in the UAE’s digital transformation journey. Over the past year, the government has successfully completed hundreds of millions of digital transactions through its services, alongside carrying out numerous digital transformation projects. This progress underscores the UAE’s commitment to integrating technology across various sectors to improve efficiency and service delivery.

Additionally, the Cabinet has approved a National Ecotourism Policy and assessed the progress of the National Strategy to Combat Desertification 2022–2030. These initiatives focus on ecosystem protection, land rehabilitation, and the preservation of native vegetation, highlighting the UAE’s dedication to environmental sustainability alongside technological advancements.
