The United Arab Emirates sounded a missile alert early Tuesday, advising residents to find shelter due to reported missile and drone activities by Iran in the region. The alert was issued by the Ministry of Defence and the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) at around 6:30 a.m., urging people to stay in safe locations until further notice. However, the all-clear was given shortly afterward.
NCEMA later explained that no missiles actually entered UAE airspace, and the alert was primarily a precautionary step given the low probability of an actual impact. Despite the minimal threat, the heightened caution reflects the increasing tensions within the region and the potential risks associated with them.
Neighboring countries Qatar and Bahrain also activated their emergency protocols in response to the interception of Iranian projectiles. In Qatar, authorities reported that debris from the projectiles caused injuries to three individuals, including a child.
This series of alerts and emergency measures comes amid rising regional tensions, with renewed fears over Gulf security. Iran’s recent claim of having fully closed the Strait of Hormuz has further exacerbated concerns, threatening potential disruptions to the global oil and gas markets.
