The United Arab Emirates is actively seeking to diversify its energy export routes and trade pathways, aiming to decrease its reliance on the Strait of Hormuz. This move comes amid ongoing tensions between the United States and Iran. According to UAE presidential adviser Anwar Gargash, the nation is working on expanding its eastern coast port capacities and developing new pipelines, railways, and trade corridors in an effort to ensure that its economic activities and energy exports are not jeopardized by regional conflicts.
Gargash highlighted the possibility of improved relations with Iran in the future, but he cautioned that rebuilding trust, following a series of attacks, could take a considerable amount of time. He also emphasized the importance of stronger cooperation among Gulf Arab states to address regional security threats effectively. Meanwhile, Qatar echoed the sentiment for increased self-reliance within the Gulf region. Majed al-Ansari, a spokesperson for Qatar’s Foreign Ministry, underlined the significance of strategic ties with the United States while suggesting that the region should not solely depend on it for security.
The Strait of Hormuz continues to be a focal point of concern, as it is a critical channel for a substantial portion of the world’s energy supplies.
