The United Arab Emirates’ President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, along with the nation’s rulers and crown princes, paid their respects to Dubai’s Vice President and Prime Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, following the death of his brother, Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Sheikh Ahmed passed away on Monday and was interred at Umm Hurair Cemetery in Dubai after funeral prayers held at Zabeel Grand Mosque.
Sheikh Ahmed’s funeral drew leaders from across the Emirates, including Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi of Sharjah, Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi of Fujairah, Sheikh Saud bin Rashid Al Mualla of Umm Al Quwain, and Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi of Ras Al Khaimah. The leaders gathered at the Zabeel Majlis to extend their condolences to Sheikh Mohammed, highlighting Sheikh Ahmed’s contributions to the UAE since the country’s formation.
A 10-day mourning period was declared in Dubai to honor Sheikh Ahmed’s legacy. Known for his public service, Sheikh Ahmed served as the deputy chairman of Dubai Police and the chairman of ARM Holding. His influence extended into sports, where he was pivotal in establishing the Jebel Ali Racecourse in 1990 and served as the president of Al Wasl Sports Club for many years.
The national leaders reflected on Sheikh Ahmed’s significant impact on the UAE’s development, particularly in support of both law enforcement and sports. His contributions have left a lasting imprint on the nation, underscoring the deep respect and admiration held for him by the country’s leadership.
