The United States has pulled out of all trade negotiations with Canada over what president Donald Trump called a “fraudulent” and “fake” advertisement.

The ad, sponsored by the Canadian  province of Ontario, used a 1987 clip of Ronald Reagan  warning that “trade barriers hurt every American worker.”

Trump, in a truth social post, accused Canada of “egregious behavior” and attempting to interfere with US supreme court hearings on his own tariffs.

The ad was a protest against those tariffs, which Trump raised to 35% in august on Canadian  goods like steel, timber, and cars. Ontario’s economy has been hit hard.

The ad has also been disavowed by the Ronald Reagan  Presidential Foundation, which stated the “selective audio” “misrepresents” the speech. Secretary of state Marco Rubio confirmed talks are suspended.
