Last year, the bilateral trade volume reached over Dh57 billion ($15.52 billion), establishing the UAE as Germany’s foremost trading partner in the Gulf region.
Presently, around 2,000 German companies operate within the UAE, including industry giants like BMW, Siemens, ThyssenKrupp, and Deutsche Bahn. The collaboration between these two countries has notably expanded in the energy sector, focusing on renewable energy, climate initiatives, decarbonisation, and energy security. In 2022, an agreement was signed to bolster energy security and industrial cooperation, which includes the supply of UAE liquefied natural gas to Germany and the development of joint projects aimed at clean energy and climate initiatives.
Beyond trade and energy, the partnership extends into research, technology, infrastructure, and cultural exchanges. In 2004, a strategic partnership agreement was formalized, elevating political ties and covering areas such as regional security, economic cooperation, and research. This agreement has been instrumental in fostering a comprehensive cooperative framework between the two countries, allowing for continued collaboration across various strategic sectors.
Despite the ongoing global political and economic challenges, the relationship between the UAE and Germany remains robust. Both nations are committed to further expanding their cooperation, demonstrating a shared dedication to mutual growth and development in key areas of interest.
